43 companies including Robi, Walton, ADN, Beximco bagged 10th ICSB Corporate Governance Excellence Award
43 companies in 14 categories listed by DSE and CSE received the 10th ICSB National Award for Corporate Governance Excellence. Among them, Robi Axiata Limited in the Telecommunications category, Walton Hi-Tech Industries in the Engineering Company category, ADN Telecom in the Information and Communication Technology category and Beximco Pharmaceuticals in the Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals category won the Gold Award.
Apart from those companies, Eastern Bank in General Banking, Shahjalal Islami Bank in Islamic Banking, IDLC Finance in Non-Banking Financial Institution Category, City General Insurance in General Insurance Category, Matin Spinning Mills in Textile & RMG Category, Unilever Consumer Care Limited in Food & Allied Category; United Power Generation and Distribution Company Limited won the Gold Award in the Fuel and Power category and Eastern Housing Limited won the Gold Award in the Service category.
The awards were presented to the representatives of the companies at the Radisson Blu Garden on Saturday night.
While speaking as the chief guest at the function online, the Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said that, ‘besides improving efficiency, it is necessary to ensure good governance and transparency in every company. We are now giving utmost importance to attract foreign investment to build a developed Bangladesh’.
Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Senior Secretary, Department of Commerce, said that the chartered accounts will help with policy support, capacity building and construction of ICSB's own building. He said that the government is giving utmost importance to export diversification. We will lose duty-free benefits in trade upon graduation. The percentage of 30 percent value addition will increase to 50 percent. Bangladesh will face this challenge after 2029. That's why we are trying to make an agreement with India, Japan to extend the period by three years. European countries will enjoy duty-free benefits in 32 EU countries under the GSP Plus policy until 2029. However, we are developing the labor law according to the ILO Convention.
CMSF Chairman and Prime Minister's former Chief Secretary Md. Najibur Rahman, ICS Senior Vice President Md. Nurul Alam and others spoke.
While speaking as the President, ICSB President and Company Secretary of Beximco Limited, Mohammad Asad Ullah said that in order to build a developed Bangladesh in 2041, the quality of chartered accounts must be improved.
The companies which were awarded with silver and bronze medals:
Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited won Silver and BRAC Bank Limited got Bronze Award in General Banking Sector. Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC won Silver in Islamic Banking Category; Standard
Bank Limited bagged Silver and Global Islami Bank PLC got Bronze Award.
In the non-banking financial institution category, Bangladesh Finance Limited won Silver and DBH Finance PLC and National Housing Finance and Investments Limited jointly won Bronze Award.
In the General Insurance category, City General Insurance Company Limited, Green Delta Insurance Company Limited won Silver and People's Insurance Company Limited won Bronze Award.
National Life Insurance Company Limited and Pragati Life Insurance Limited bagged the Silver Award in the Life Insurance category.
In the Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals category, Square Pharmaceuticals PLC bagged Silver and Renata Limited and Navana Pharmaceuticals Limited jointly bagged the Bronze Award.
In the textile and RMG category, Paramount Textiles PLC bagged the silver and Hua Well Textiles (BD) PLC bagged the bronze award.
Golden Harvest Agro Industries Limited bagged Silver and Olympic Industries Limited Bronze Award in Food & Allied category.
In the Information and Communication Technology category, Aamra Technologies Limited won the Silver Award and IT Consultants Limited won the Bronze Award.
In the engineering company category, Runner Automobiles PLC bagged the silver and Singer Bangladesh Limited bagged the bronze award.
Marico Bangladesh Limited won Silver and LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Limited got Bronze Award in manufacturing category.
In the fuel and power category, Linde Bangladesh Limited won silver and Doreen Power Generation and Systems Limited and MJL Bangladesh PLC jointly won bronze award.
Unique Hotels & Resorts PLC bagged Silver and Index Agro Industries Ltd got Bronze Award in Service category.
Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited won the Silver Award in the Telecommunications category. No bronze medal was awarded in this category.
